Joy doesn’t always arrive wrapped in ease.
It doesn’t always feel obvious, natural, or effortless—especially in seasons when life feels painfully out of our control.
Some days, joy looks like a choice instead of a feeling.
And lately, I’ve learned that choosing joy on purpose has become one of the most important parts of my story.
Not because my days are simple.
Not because everything is perfect.
And definitely not because my path has been smooth.
But because joy is one of the only things that reminds me I’m still here.
Still breathing.
Still fighting.
Still hopeful.
Still moving forward… even in the waiting.
Joy Isn’t Accidental
I used to think joy was something that just happened to you.
But waiting for a heart transplant has changed the way I see joy entirely.
Joy is not a coincidence.
It’s not a lucky moment.
It’s not something that appears when circumstances finally line up.
Joy is a practice.
A decision.
A deliberate act of defiance against fear, exhaustion, or heaviness.
Joy is choosing gratitude on a day that didn’t go your way.
Joy is finding something beautiful in the middle of something hard.
Joy is noticing the tiny things—because the tiny things keep us going.
Where I’m Finding Joy Right Now
Joy for me looks different every day.
Some days it’s big and loud. Other days it’s quiet and fragile. But it’s always there if I look hard enough.
Joy is waking up to a new sunrise—another day I get to live.
Joy is hearing my kids laugh and argue throughout the house.
Joy is football and softball practices that feel ordinary and sacred all at once.
Joy is a quiet moment with God when my heart feels heavy.
Joy is choosing to smile even when I’m worn down.
Joy is hope—steady, gentle, relentless hope.
The truth is: I have to look for it.
I have to chase it.
I have to choose it.
But when I do, it changes everything!
Choosing Joy Doesn’t Mean Ignoring Reality
I’m not joyful because life is easy.
I’m joyful because I refuse to let the hard parts take everything from me.
Joy doesn’t erase fear or exhaustion.
It sits with them.
It holds space for both truth and hope.
It reminds me that even in the darkest season, there is light.
Even in the waiting, there is meaning.
Even in uncertainty, there is purpose.
Joy doesn’t deny the battle.
It simply refuses to surrender to it.
Finding Joy On Purpose
Choosing joy on purpose has taught me that even when everything feels heavy:
- There is still something to smile about.
- There is still something to be grateful for.
- There is still something to look forward to.
- There is still something worth fighting for.
Joy won’t always find me.
So I’ve learned to go find it.
To seek it out.
To let it meet me where I am, even if that place is fragile.
Because joy isn’t just a feeling—it’s fuel.
It’s strength.
It’s a reminder that my story is still being written.
If You’re Searching for Joy Too…
Start small.
Start where you are.
Start with something simple, something real, something honest.
Joy doesn’t need to be loud.
It just needs to be noticed.
I hope you remember that joy is not out of reach—not even in the season you’re in.
Sometimes the hardest seasons produce the deepest joy.
Not because the circumstances are good, but because you are growing into someone stronger, softer, wiser, and more resilient.
You deserve moments of joy—on purpose, with purpose.
Choosing joy in every season… The Beat Goes On!
